# Sponsored Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 870) for applicants from India

The subclass 870 lets parents stay in Australia for three or five years at a time, up to ten years in total, without a path to permanent residence and without the decade-long queue. The child sponsor must be approved first and meet an income requirement.

## FAQ
**Can my parents work on the 870?**
No. The 870 has no work rights. It is a long-stay family visa.

**Can we switch to the 143 later?**
A parent can apply for a 143 separately; the two queues are independent. Many families hold the 870 while the 143 is in the queue.
