## For Indian applicants
Indians lodged about 413,500 visitor visa applications in 2024-25 and 302,758 were granted, making India one of Australia’s three largest visitor markets. Most are approved, but the tourist stream has run at roughly one refusal in four for India, almost always on the Genuine Visitor test: can you show you will leave Australia when your visit ends?

- Enough money for the trip, shown through your own statements and income tax returns
- A credible itinerary or an invitation from family in Australia
- Health and character requirements; health insurance is recommended
- Sponsored family stream: a settled relative in Australia sponsors you and may be asked for a security bond

## Documents
- Passport with at least six months validity
- Six months of bank statements and the last two or three years of income tax returns
- Employment letter with approved leave, or business registration and GST returns

- Incomplete sponsor documents in the sponsored family stream

## FAQ
**How long is an Australian visitor visa valid for Indians?**
Typically 12 months with stays of up to 3 months per visit, though the department can grant shorter or longer validity, including multi-year visas for frequent travellers with strong history.

**Can my parents visit me in Australia on this visa?**
Yes. Parents of Australian residents usually apply in the tourist stream or the sponsored family stream. Parents visiting for longer periods may be granted stays of up to 12 months with conditions.

**Can I appeal a refused visitor visa?**
Only sponsored family stream refusals carry a review right for the sponsor. Tourist stream refusals lodged from India do not; the path is to understand the reasons and reapply with a stronger file.
