This is the practical visa for Indian parents who want long stays with their children and grandchildren without the cost and wait of the 143. It cannot be combined with work rights and requires private health insurance for the whole stay.

Can my parents work on the 870?+
No. The 870 has no work rights. It is a long-stay family visa.
Can we switch to the 143 later?+
A parent can apply for a 143 separately; the two queues are independent. Many families hold the 870 while the 143 is in the queue.
